Castañer opened its first workshop in Bañolas in 1927 and has since turned a humble, popular shoe, the espadrille, into a design piece; in the 1970s it created, together with Yves Saint Laurent, the first wedge espadrille. What is the sole of a Castañer espadrille like?

It is braided from 100% natural jute on machines invented in the Castañer atelier almost a hundred years ago, and the rubber is fixed by vulcanisation.
