Rains: the Danish brand that turns rain into an excuse to go out

Rains Otoño-Invierno 2026 en SUNE

There are October days when the sky turns grey and you think: today I'm staying in. And there are others when you open the wardrobe, grab the jacket you know won't let you down, and you go anyway. To pick up bread, to the terrace that's still open with a heater, to walk around the neighbourhood when there's almost no light left.

Rains makes that kind of jacket.

A brand from Aarhus, not from the runway

Rains was born in Aarhus, Denmark's second city, in 2012. A place where it really rains — not as a poetic device. The brand says it clearly on its website: they are an outerwear lifestyle brand, a house that works on outerwear with a mix of conceptual and functional design, urban inspiration and a very distinctive signature fabric.

We like that Danish way of solving things: no decoration, just what's needed, made to last. It's the same instinct we look for when we choose the brands for SUNE. Clothes that solve, that stay with you, that don't shout.

PU-coating, or why this jacket is different

Rains' signature is its polyurethane-coated fabric — what's known as PU-coating. It's what gives the surface that smooth appearance, somewhere between lacquer and satin, and what makes it truly waterproof. But what's interesting isn't just how it looks or how it works: it's what it avoids.

Most rainwear on the market uses PVC (a plastic that's hard to recycle and full of questionable additives) or DWR-PFC treatments — the perfluorinated family that has been making headlines for years for its persistence in water and in our bodies. Rains says it plainly on its own website: they chose PU-coating precisely because it is a much more responsible alternative to those two.

We like this: in a season when "sustainable" is so overused, it's a relief to find a brand that explains it with names and last names.

How to choose your Rains: a quick model guide

This season we have five different jacket cuts, and it can be hard to tell the difference in a photo. Here's the human translation:

  • Jacket W3. The Rains classic. Straight cut, hip length, adjustable hood with drawcord. The one you buy if it's your first Rains. Perfect for urban daily life: bike, university, relaxed office.
  • Long Jacket W3. The same silhouette but long to mid-thigh, with snap buttons and flap pockets. The one you want if you often wear a dress or skirt underneath, or if you prefer more coverage.
  • Curve Jacket. A waterproof with a defined waist thanks to an integrated belt, creating that feminine line rarely seen in rainwear. The option with more style and less utility.
  • A-Line W Jacket. Trapeze cut: fitted through the shoulders, flaring at the hem. Structured hood with integrated visor, underarm ventilation eyelets. Very photogenic, very current.
  • Fishtail Jacket and Fishtail Parka. The cut with a fishtail hem, hood with integrated visor. The Fishtail Jacket is lighter; the Fishtail Parka has a longer, more voluminous silhouette. The choice for real rain, travel, and long days out.

Our honest recommendation: if you're not sure and you live in a city, start with the Long Jacket W3. It covers the most situations without ever falling short.

The colours of the season

This season the Rains palette at SUNE is restrained and elegant: black, navy, dark grey (dark graphite), beige sand, comet (a coppery bronze with an iridescent finish that shifts with the light), green (deep forest green), and mystique (a dark slate green with a Scandinavian soul, almost the colour of the North Sea in autumn). No surprises, all combinable.

Rains Autumn-Winter 2026 bags at SUNE

The Autumn-Winter collection at SUNE

We've chosen twenty Rains pieces for this season. They fall into three families:

Jackets and W3 parkas. The iconic Jacket in black and comet, the Long Jacket in dark grey and navy, the Curve Jacket in beige and a Curve Long Jacket in black with integrated belt and fishtail hem (a kind of Danish trench coat), the A-Line W Jacket in mystique, and both Fishtail formats (jacket in green, parka in comet and navy).

Bags and backpacks. Same fabric, same promise: even if a shower catches you out, nothing inside gets wet. The MSN Bag Mini in black and tempt (lacquered mauve pink), the Valera Shoulder Bag in comet and the Valera Weekend Bag Small in mystique for getaways, the Dash Messenger Tote in beige and mystique, the Dash Backpack in black, and the 2-Way Tote Backpack Mini in sand and mystique.

A bucket hat. The W2 Blue Dusk, in case you leave without an umbrella and want to keep seeing what's in front of you.

Frequently asked questions

Are they really waterproof or just water-resistant? They are waterproof. Rains rates this season as W3, its intermediate level: protection against everyday moderate rain. Seams are welded (ultrasonic welding) to prevent leaks. It's not mountain-storm gear, but for any urban rain, yes.

How do you care for PU fabric? What it doesn't handle well is heat: no tumble dryer, no iron, and avoid direct sun for hours on end. Day-to-day, a damp cloth on the outside is enough. For deeper cleaning, always follow the inner label of each garment.

Are the jackets unisex? This season's jackets are designed and sized for women. The bags, backpacks and bucket hat do work for both men and women.

What size should I order? Rains uses the usual European sizing (XS to XL). If you're between two sizes, come by the Barcelona shop or write to us: we'll help you decide looking at the specific piece.
