In 1927 , Luis Castañer and his cousin Tomás Serra founded the first workshop of the brand, where they made espadrilles seven tapes which sent soldiers to the Spanish Civil War. During this period the company is nationalized. After the war, Castañer goes through their worst, but in the '60s , Lorenzo Castañer and his wife Isabel take control of the company and give it a twist to the business , adding color to canvas shoes and revolutionizing the market since create a Mediterranean product starts to become fashion footwear. The 70 represent a high point in the history of Castañer , when Isabel and Lorenzo know the designer Yves Saint Laurent in Paris fair , and he asks them to manufacture wedge espadrilles for his signature. Lorenzo takes the challenge and thus get, Castañer become the first shoe company to perform this type of footwear. Since then, Castañer has been present in the collections of top fashion brands and making it an essential item in the wardrobe of people around the world. At present, the Castañer family continues to lead the company, work , enthusiasm, tradition and craftsmanship that characterizes the firm, always adapting to the current needs of its customers.
